Practical Exam Instructions

1) Important Note

a) Practical Exam Dates & Times are as per North America – Pacific Standard Time Zone.
b) Visharad Students will have their “Practical Exam” and “Rang Manch – Stage Performances” on the same date & time as per their indicated practical Exam date & Time

3) General Instructions – Practical Exam (Prarambhik to Visharad Students – All Subjects)

  • Only the Student and live Accompanist are allowed in the exam room.  Family members are not allowed during exam.
  • Students, Parents, Teachers, or any other person is not authorized or allowed to record the exam or share it on social media platform before the declaration of result.
  • Interference of Teachers / Parents is not allowed during the exam.
  • Student, Teacher or Parents should not contact Examiner directly and ask him / her to reveal the exam result
  • Dance Teachers are allowed to remain present during the exam to recite padhant / nattuvangam.
  • Please have proper dress code during exam.
  • Soft copies of Hall Tickets are available at our web site.
  • Student MUST PRINT and keep HARD COPY of Hall Ticket ready to show during practical Exam.
  • Students who fail to remain present for Practical Exam at scheduled time, will be marked as ABSENT and no alternate arrangements will be made to conduct their separate exam on any other date.
  • Any complaints regarding the improper conduct of Practical Exam or Examiner, must be officially reported to Tabla Niketan Center immediately after the exam with all possible related information and evidence, Complaints lodged after the declaration of results will not be considered.Do visit web site time to time for further instruction regarding updates related to Exam instructions.
  • Tabla Niketan is not responsible for Delay or rescheduling of published exam time due to any reasons
  • Lack of proper technical arrangements may affect the exam result & over all schedule and NO COMPLAINTS will be considered in this regard

4) Instructions For On Line Practical Exam (Prarambhik to Madhyama Students only – All Subjects) :

  • Subject wise zoom link will be provided at our web site couple of days before scheduled practical exam. Do visit web site time to time for further instruction regarding Zoom Links.
  • Practical exams from Prarambhik to Madhyama Poorna level will be conducted via ONLINE mode.
  • Recorded music for dance and electronic Tanpura, Tabla, iLehra is allowed for ONLINE (Prarambhik To Madhyama Poorna)  exams only.
  • Proper arrangements for ONLINE exam such as :
    • Fully loaded Desk Top Computer or Laptop with high resolution graphics and built in Audio/ Video capabilities  (iPhone or iPad is not acceptable for Practical Exam)
    • High Speed un-interrupted Wired Ethernet internet connection (NO WIFI),
    • Powerful Blue tooth External audio speaker for Accompaniment music.
    • Proper light, sufficient Space and Soundproof room arrangement,
    • Camera adjustments with high resolution and good zooming capability so that the student is entirely visible to the Examiner.
    • Please login with proper Zoom link, 1/2 an hour  before your scheduled Exam time.  After Login, students should wait in waiting room, we will get you in once the previous students exam is done.  Please do not call and send any Texts once you are in waiting room.
  • Mandatory Zoom Setting for Practical Exam” (Prarambhik to Madhyama Students only)
    • After login to Zoom, Please go to “Audio” section and follow below steps :
      • Speaker / Output Level  –  Volume should be set to max.
      • Microphone –  Volume should be set to Max.
      • Audio profile should be selected as indicated below –
        • 3A “Zoom Background noise removal” and
        • 3B  “Background noise suppression” should be set to “Low”

5) Practical Exam. Instructions For Visharad Students only - All Subjects :

  • Practical exams of Visharad Pratham and Poorna exams will be conducted in Person at below address –
    7844, McClellan Road, Cupertino, CA – 95014.
  • Visharad students (All Subjects) must physically remain present at the center and appear for practical exam with live musicians / Instruments
  • Tabla Niketan will not be responsible to provide any assistance regarding accompaniments and instruments.
  • If any Visharad Student wants to use electronic Tabla / Tanpura, OR recorded dance music pieces –  then he/she must take prior written permission from Registrar’s Office.
    • This permission letter must be shown to the Examiner at the start of the exam.
    • However, student will remain responsible if electronic app OR recorded piece of any question asked by Examiner is not available at the time of exam.
    • In such case, evaluation made by Examiner will be considered final – and no complaints regarding exam result will be considered afterwards
